Hiking at Chiang Dao Jungle Trail
If you want to see some of Northern Thailand’s spectacular jungle and wildlife, we highly recommend getting off the beaten track and into the Chiang Dao Jungle.
Explore the jungle with the help of a certificated local guide. Largely untouched by the tourist trail in Thailand, Chiang Dao Jungle offers unique sights and experiences that you wouldn’t be able to have without an expert guide.
Suntan is a TAT licensed local guide who has lived in the area for over 8 years. He can take you on a number of unique trails, to which only few guides have access to. Single or multi-day treks can be arranged. You can also plan birdwatching excursions to see the many amazing species that live in the forest.
What to Expect
You start the day at Chiang Dao Jungle Base Camp, a private camping platform in the middle of a coffee and tea plantation, located over the beautiful rainforest. Guests start the day off with a fresh cup of coffee from beans that were grown only a few meters away, and sweetened with honey collected from the tallest treetops of Chiang Dao jungle.
While hiking, your local guides will show you different types of flora and fauna like edible mushrooms, notable birds (like the long-tail broadbill or woodpecker), and notable plants (if you’re lucky, you might spot a rafflesiaceae — the largest flower in the world!).
The hiking trail will lead you to a hidden waterfalls, incredible nature and breathtaking view point of Doi Luang, Thailand’s third highest mountain. Here, you’ll take a break to enjoy tasty traditional homemade Thai style lunch.
The jungle is bursting with sights and sounds of the local wildlife, and blooming with radiant flowers and greenery. From trekking across mountaintops, to zigzagging through dense banana groves and following a stream through the jungle to discover hidden waterfalls, the Chiang Dao jungle offers endless possibilities for adventure.
