The following five places can be reached on foot or by bicycle from Chiang Dao Hut, depending on your fitness, the weather and your preferred pace.
1. Chiang Dao Cave
Chiang Dao Cave is one of the best-known attractions in the area. The cave is located beneath the limestone mountain of Doi Luang Chiang Dao and forms part of a long-established temple complex.
Visitors can walk through the illuminated section to see limestone formations, Buddha images and small shrines. Exploring some of the deeper sections may require a local cave guide and a lantern.
The ground inside the cave can be dark, damp and uneven. Comfortable footwear is recommended.

2. Wat Tham Pha Plong
Wat Tham Pha Plong is a peaceful forest temple situated on the slopes of Doi Luang Chiang Dao.
Reaching the temple involves walking up a long staircase through the forest. Buddhist teachings and signs placed along the route encourage visitors to walk slowly and reflect on their surroundings.
The climb is steady but not technically difficult, and there are places to stop and rest along the way. At the upper temple area, visitors can enjoy a quiet atmosphere surrounded by forest and mountain scenery.

3. Ban Hua Thung Spring
Ban Hua Thung Spring is a natural water source within the Ban Hua Thung community. Clear water emerges naturally from the ground in a peaceful setting surrounded by trees and countryside.
The spring offers a simple local experience rather than a developed tourist attraction. It is a pleasant place to appreciate the natural environment and the quieter rural side of Chiang Dao.
Visitors should respect the community, avoid disturbing the natural area and take all rubbish away with them.

4. Ban Yang Pu To Hot Spring
Ban Yang Pu To Hot Spring is a simple local hot spring in the Chiang Dao countryside. It offers a more local and less commercial experience than a large spa or resort.
The surrounding area is peaceful and gives visitors another opportunity to experience everyday community life around Chiang Dao.

5. Chiang Dao Butterfly-Watching Area
The Chiang Dao Butterfly-Watching Area is a pleasant place to observe butterflies and enjoy the natural surroundings close to Chiang Dao Hut.
The number and variety of butterflies change according to the season, weather and flowering plants. Walk slowly and observe quietly without touching or disturbing the butterflies.
Please do not collect butterflies, plants or other wildlife. Sightings cannot be guaranteed because this is a natural area rather than an enclosed butterfly garden.
Please ask Chiang Dao Hut for local directions before setting out.
Exploring from Chiang Dao Hut
These five places can be explored on foot or by bicycle, depending on your fitness and the weather. Some local roads may be narrow, wet or uneven, so please travel carefully.
Carry drinking water, protect yourself from the sun and avoid cycling after dark. During the rainy season, check the weather before leaving Chiang Dao Hut.
