Chiang Dao is one of Northern Thailand’s well-known destinations for birdwatching, surrounded by mountains, forest, farmland, and a wide variety of natural habitats.
At Chiang Dao Hut, we are fortunate to have many birds living in and visiting the area around our accommodation. Our gardens, trees, flowering plants, and surrounding natural areas provide food and shelter for a variety of local and seasonal birds.
The Bird Hide at Chiang Dao Hut offers guests and bird photographers a quiet place to sit, observe, and photograph some of these birds at close range.
A Bird Hide Surrounded by Nature
Our bird hide is located within the grounds of Chiang Dao Hut and is designed to blend into the surrounding garden and vegetation.
Instead of walking continuously in search of birds, visitors can spend time quietly inside the hide and wait for birds to naturally approach the area.
Different species may appear depending on the season, weather, time of day, and natural food availability.
This unpredictability is part of the birding experience. Birds are wild animals, so sightings can never be guaranteed.
Birds at Chiang Dao Hut
A variety of birds can be found around Chiang Dao Hut throughout the year.
Some species visit the garden to feed on flowers, fruits, insects, and other natural food sources, while others move through the surrounding trees and vegetation.
During the migratory season, additional visitors may also appear in the area.
The bird hide provides another opportunity to observe these birds quietly and, when conditions are right, photograph them from a relatively close distance.
More Than Just a Bird Hide
Birdlife at Chiang Dao Hut is not limited to the hide itself.
Walking around the property, you may find sunbirds feeding from flowers, leafbirds moving through flowering trees, bulbuls searching for fruit, and many other small birds using the garden as part of their habitat.
We continue to grow and maintain a variety of plants and trees around the property, creating a garden that is not only attractive for our guests but also useful for birds, butterflies, insects, and other wildlife.
Our goal is simple: to create a place where people and nature can comfortably share the same space.
Bird Photography
The hide can be particularly useful for bird photographers who prefer to wait quietly rather than continuously move through the forest.
Bird activity varies from day to day, and patience is always important. Some days may be very active, while on other days the birds may visit less frequently.
For us, this is what makes photographing wild birds special — every visit and every photograph is different.
